The Boys Powerlifting team tied for 5th place in total points at the State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene, TX. They have worked hard all year, and it has payed off. Jonathan Fields was named Best Actor, Breyanna Roberts was named to the All-Star Cast, Bryce Roberts was named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast, and Emily Pizana-Ortiz was awarded the Top Technician Award. This is the culmination of countless hours of preparation and hard work by everyone involved. We are proud of you, and wish you well at the Bi-District Competition! KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Mid-America Christian University men's basketball seniors Josh Smith and Jarius Wilson have each earned the prestigious NAIA Scholar Athlete award, the organization released yesterday (Mar. 23).
To qualify to be nominated by the school's head coach or Sports Information Director, a student-athlete must be at least a junior in academic standing with a minimum 3.5 grade-point average. Smith majored in Secondary Mathematics/Education with a 3.5 GPA, while Wilson maintained a 3.57 GPA in Business Administration. The senior duo is fresh off wrapping up their stellar careers by helping the Evangels with their first regular season Sooner Athletic Conference championship and then advance to the quarterfinals of the 2015 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship for the first time in school history. ![]() Venus High School alumnus and Mid-America Christian Univsersity senior, Josh Smith, has been awarded National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character Award by the NAIA Division 1 Conference. This award recognizes Josh's dedication to the NAIA’s core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership. According to VHS Bulldog Basketball Head Coach Jay Underwood, Josh always demonstrated exemplary character and leadership as a student at VHS. Josh was an All-State player during his senior season with VHS in 2011, and we are proud that he has continued his dedication to excellence in both athletics and citizenship. We wish Josh the best of luck as he completes his senior year at MACU. Thank you, Josh, for setting the example of what being a Venus Bulldog is all about! Josh Smith receives the Champions of Character Award.

This high placing earns him a sale slot; great job Rusty! VHS FFA members still have another hog and a steer that have yet to show, so we expect even more fantastic news from Houston.
