VHS 1 to 1 Chromebook Information

8/13/2017

Greetings parents!  Venus ISD is proud to announce that all Venus High School students will be issued Chromebooks for the 17-18 school year.  Our goal is to provide equity in access to educational resources, and to provide our students with the means to help them learn most effectively.

All parents are invited to attend an informational presentation on the one to one technology roll-out for Venus High School at 8 pm on Monday August 14, 2017.  This session will present general information about how technology will impact your students' learning.

Chromebooks will be issued to students at the dates and times below.  In order for your student to receive a Chromebook, the student AND a parent/guardian must attend one of the distribution sessions, and pay the $15 technology usage fee at that time.  The sessions will consist of a short instructional meeting for the student and parent, followed by the student receiving their Chromebook.  Instructional meetings will begin on the hour and half hour, so try to arrive just before the hour or half hour to avoid a wait.

Chromebook Distribution Schedule

Tuesday August 22: 5 pm- 9 pm (last instructional meeting begins at 8:30 pm)

Wednesday August 23: 5 pm- 9 pm (last instructional meeting begins at 8:30 pm)

Thursday August 24: 5 pm- 8 pm (last instructional meeting begins at 7:30 pm)

Friday August 25: 9 am- 11 am (last instructional meeting begins at 10:30 am)

Friday August 25: 1 pm - 8 pm (last instructional meeting begins at 7:30 pm)

Let’s set up your child’s account now.  You will need the student I.D. # of each child.

Paid Lunch Price Increases

Venus Primary and Elementary School - $2.65
Venus Middle School - $2.90      Venus High School - $2.95
This final rule updates the meal pattern and nutrition standards for the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program to align them with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. This rule requires schools to increase the availability of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free and low-fat fluid milk in school meals; reduce the level of sodium, saturated fat and Trans fat in meals; and meet the nutrition needs of school children within their calorie requirements. These improvements will be cost effective which will require paid lunch prices to increase.  These changes are being made in an effort to enhance the diet and health of school children and to help minimize the childhood obesity and child diabetic trend.  We look forward to serving your child.

VENUS ISD CHARGE POLICY

Students will only be allowed to charge two lunch meals.  Students are not able to charge snack items such as milk, fat free cookies and chips.  Students must have prepaid money in their account or have cash to purchase these items.
If your child exceeds the maximum charge of two meals, an alternate meal will be served to them for that day that consists of a peanut butter or cheese sandwich and a milk.
You may send a check or cash with your student or you may take advantage of the online EZ Pay System by going to the VISD website at www.venusisd.net/parent.  You can track your child’s account and set up a low balance warning as well.  Parents can also receive a text message to inform you when your child owes money, but only if you have filled out the form that gives the district permission to send you a text.  You can find this form on our website at www.venusisd.net/Departments/Food & Nutrition/Text Option Letter.  You can also call the school and ask that a form be sent home with your child.
