Venus ISD is focused on the growth and achievement of each student, each day. The data we have thus far shows that on average, Connected Learning students are not performing as effectively as On-Campus students. Research is consistent that online instruction is not the most effective learning environment for the vast majority of K-12 students.
After reviewing student performance and attendance data, the Venus ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve the Superintendent’s recommendation to conclude Connected Learning after Christmas break. Our intent is to prevent students from getting so far behind in learning that they are not able to achieve at the appropriate grade level by the end of the academic year. Remote asynchronous learning will be available to students who have been advised by their healthcare provider or any federal, state, or local governmental authority to self-quarantine due to concerns related to COVID-19.
Venus ISD is committed to providing the best and safest learning environment possible, even in the midst of this pandemic. Therefore, to further mitigate COVID-19’s impact on learning, we are adding 12 classrooms, via portable buildings, to provide additional space for appropriate distancing. We will maintain existing measures, such as disinfecting surfaces throughout the day, sanitizing nightly, and screening students for fevers each morning. We will also implement additional temperature screening throughout the day, in order to identify developing health issues more expediently. In addition, VISD administration is currently finalizing details of providing free, on-site COVID-19 testing that would also include a respiratory panel with results in 24 hrs.
