The mission of the Venus ISD Police Department is to provide our future citizens a safe learning environment.
A police SUV is parked next to a statue of a bulldog.
The Venus ISD Police Department has been fully-authorized as a police agency by the State of Texas since November 15, 2019, and all VISD school district officers are commissioned by the State of Texas. School district police officers are authorized to enforce all laws and may arrest individuals found in violations of those laws. Additionally, officers may write appropriate citations for offenses covered by State law, including offenses listed in the Texas Education Code. These citations are filed with the Justice of the Peace or Municipal Court having jurisdiction.

We are well-trained professionals who work together as a team, adapt to changing environments, and reflect the values of the Venus Independent School District in carrying out our assignments.

Racial Profiling
The Venus Independent School District supports the 77th Texas Legislature's mandate prohibiting racial profiling in Texas. Our police officers work under a departmental policy that is consistent with all state and federal laws. The policy includes provisions for citizens to contact us if they have a conflict with a Venus Independent School District police officer.

Since January 1, 2020, the Venus Independent School District police department in accordance with the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures Article 2.132 (b)(7), has been collecting police contact data for the purpose of identifying and responding to concerns regarding racial profiling practices. The data analysis documented within the Racial Profiling Report for the last calendar year suggests that the Venus Independent Police Department is not currently experiencing a problem regarding racial profiling practices. This is also supported by the fact that no complaints from community members regarding officers misconduct associated with racial profiling practices have been received.

The data was submitted to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers (TCOLE) as required by the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures Article 2.131-2.138. The public can obtain an electronic copy of the Racial Profiling Report from TCOLE by visiting their website.

Information on the complaint process may be obtained from any member of this department. Additional information about this process may be obtained by calling us at (469) 564-7110 or emailing the Citizen Complaint Form to Venus ISD Police Department at visd.police@venusisd.net.

We are very proud of the relationship the Venus Independent School District Police Department shares with the community. Our longstanding goal is to provide our students, staff, and visitors with a safe and secure learning environment.

Reporting Traffic Accidents
No matter how carefully you drive, you may someday be involved in an accident. Regardless of who is at fault, it is important that you know what to do. If you are involved in an accident, the law requires that you stop at the scene of the accident or as close to the scene as possible. Do not attempt to move an injured person from a wrecked vehicle unless you have the necessary medical training or there is another immediate danger, such as fire.
The Venus ISD Police Department will only file an accident report occurring on school property or those accidents involving school district vehicles for the following circumstances:

  • The accident involves DWI/DUI or a hazardous material spill
  • There is a need for a wrecker at the accident scene
  • The accident occurred during a police pursuit

State law requires that all drivers involved in a collision where the total damage is $1000 or above and/or an injury is suffered by any person where no police accident report is made must report the collision to the Texas Department of Public Safety in Austin, Texas within TEN (10) days of the collision. You will also need to exchange information with the other drivers involved in the accident.
Be prepared to provide your name, address, driver's license number and vehicle registration information. The VISD Police Department provides a courtesy form (Vehicle Accident Information Form) for you convenience in exchanging information with the other drivers. Exchange Form

If you have an accident with an unattended vehicle, you must make a reasonable effort to find the owner of the vehicle or the owner of any other property that may be damaged as a result of the accident. Include your name, address, driver's license number and the date and time of the accident. You must report the accident to the police as quickly as possible.
If an accident report was made, you may obtain a copy of the report for a fee of $6.00 from the Venus ISD Police Department.
