Free Breakfast and Lunch for All Students in 21-22

7/1/2021

We are excited to announce that for the 2021-2022 school year, healthy meals will be offered every school day to all students at no cost. Typically, a student’s household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals. However, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued guidance that allows schools to offer meals to all students at no cost for the 2021-2022 school year.

While no application or eligibility determination process is required for your student to receive free meals this school year, the income eligibility requirement will resume in the 2022-2023 school year.  Please plan to apply for free or reduced meals for the 2022-2023 school year.

National Nutrition Month

3/2/2021

National Nutrition Month in the USA is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. Some ways to keep your nutritional and physical health in check are detailed below:
The Importance of Sleep
We know physical activity and good nutrition are vital to keeping our bodies healthy. But don’t forget about a good night’s sleep! The importance of sleep and its health benefits cannot be overlooked. Let’s see what makes sleep so important and how we can get the most out of it.

Staying Active at Home
As you might find yourself at home more often than usual during this time of social distancing, you can find new ways to stay active. Physical activity and relaxation techniques can be useful tools for reducing stress and protecting your health. The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommends adults set a goal of 150 to 300 minutes (2.5 to 5 hours) of moderate activity each week. You can reach this goal by being active at least 30 minutes each day. And it doesn’t have to be all at once! Doing 10 minutes of activity at a time throughout the day is a great way to reach this goal. Here are some ideas to get moving while at home.

Quarantine Due to Travel to Mexico and Other Countries

2/4/2021

Updated 2/11/2021
In order to maintain consistency in all our COVID-19 mitigation protocols, while ensuring our ability to enforce them with fidelity, it is necessary to modify a recent announcement regarding extensive travel. Quarantines will not be based on travel destination, but in keeping with original protocols, all quarantines will be based on COVID-19 positive tests and close contact with someone who has COVID-19.

We encourage students to be tested for COVID-19 upon their return to school after international travel, and we will facilitate free, on-site, COVID-19 testing for students in this situation.  To arrange for a COVID test for your child after international travel, please contact a campus nurse.

Long-Range Facilities Planning Committee

1/29/2021

Venus ISD is partnering with parents and community members to assemble a Long-Range Facilities Planning Committee.  We are looking for community members to serve in the long-range facility planning process. Committee members will examine the recent demographic projections, current capacities and school finances in order to plan for the next level of possibilities for Venus Students.  The committee we are forming is not a bond committee. This is for planning purposes only.  With advanced planning roads, water and other amenities can be considered so that their delay is minimized when time becomes a limited commodity.

Beginning Thursday, February 4, 2021 we will host a series of community partnership meetings for the purpose of creating a long-range facility plan to be presented to the Board of Trustees.

If you are interested and able to commit to 5 meetings in February and March or if you simply have questions please email futureplans@venusisd.net.

Meetings will be held in a COVID safe environment and masking, hand sanitizing and appropriate distancing will be required.  Child care will not be provided and we request that your children not accompany you to these meetings.
